Our Story
A Family Passion for Wood and Cooperage
Located in northern Romania, in Sighetu Marmatiei, on the Ukrainian border in the Maramures department, close to Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains, Transilvania Bois is a family business founded in 1998 by the Vlad family.
Passionate about the forest in general, wood, and its crafts, the Vlad family established a company focused on forestry and merranderie. This company is deeply committed to family values and the transmission of skilled trades.
The Vlad family’s mastery of forestry and merranderie, along with their passion for the forest and wood professions—especially that of a cooper—culminated in 2003 with the construction of a workshop equipped with a high-performance production unit and the creation of a range of oak barrels, marketed under the Transilvania Bois Tonnellerie brand
Thanks to its control over oaks supplies and the expertise of its coopers, the Transilvania Bois brand has quickly expanded, particularly in the United States, South Africa, and New Zealand.
Today, around 80 people work daily at Transilvania Bois, from merranderie to sawing, including various forestry trades.
